Hallstatt Village

Hallstatt, Upper Austria is a village in the Salzkammergut, a region in Austria. From the train station we took the ferry to cross the lake to reach the Hallstatt town, we enjoyed the arresting scenery of a tiny village of pastel-colored houses tucked between the amazing mountains and glassy waters of the lake comes into view.

The town is very small and you can walk from one end to the other in about a half hour, we took a funicular up the mountain and hiked back down. It was an easy and pretty downhill hike. We also toured the salt mine (the oldest in the world), salt mines are what actually attracted settlers to this area in the first place, centuries before Christ was born.
